Tracey has leadership experience in North Carolina at the district and state level having served as President of both of these organizations and as a member and chair of various state and local committees. She has represented the members of North Carolina as a delegate in the House of Delegates for two terms and has served in various leadership capacities within the House organization. Tracey has received various awards for her work with the North Carolina Child Nutrition Services, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the North Carolina School Health Nutrition Network. In these rapidly changing times, the Academy needs leaders in its House of Delegates who have the ability to draw on past and present events and plan effectively on the issues facing our profession. I have worked with Tracey for a number of years on the state level, and I know that she is passionate about the Academy's work. I am greatly pleased to endorse the candidacy of Tracey Bates for the Director of the House of Delegates (HOD) for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. I have known Tracey for the past 8 years through our work together for the North Carolina Dietetic Association (NCDA) and the Durham Chapel Hill District Dietetic Association (DCHDA). Tracey and I collaborated on many projects and issues, including state licensure, the state annual meeting, leadership training for members, budget and operations of the state and district associations, to name just a few. We worked together to educate, inform, mentor and guide the members of our affiliate on the issues before the HOD by presenting at each and every district meeting at a least once during the year. It was Tracey’s goal to ensure that our members were aware of the issues and engaged in the process of letting the Academy know the thoughts of the whole membership. Tracey was actively engaged with the work of the HOD, not just for the benefit of the members of the North Carolina Dietetic Association, but for the benefit, support and advancement of the House, the Academy and the profession. She has been a tireless volunteer for our Affiliate and for the Academy, through her service as a 2 term NCDA president and a 2 term NCDA delegate to the HOD. Her skills of organization, commitment, forward thinking and her unending support the profession will be a tremendous asset to the Academy. It has been my opportunity to observe Tracey’s path into food, dietetics and nutrition. She was a student when I became aware of her. While a student she joined the association and began to volunteer as a member, then she began chairing committees. It was not long before she was asking for additional involvement. She believes in our profession and we the professionals. She takes advantage of every opportunity to promote the profession and advocates for coverage of nutrition services with policy makers, other health professionals, community partners and the public.
